Faces.com was originally an Australian social network. For its startup, the seven person company raised approximately $3 million in start up funding.
The site, which has been around since 2004, had the normal social networking features: friends, blogging, customizable profile pages etc. They offered a free membership with upload limits and bandwidth restrictions, and then a $25/year fee for unlimited.
According to our source, Faces.com had about 200,000 registered users and hosted approximately one million images as well as over 600,000 tunes before unceremoniously shutting down.
Faces.com has now reopened after a British based company the Symbios Group bought it for an undisclosed sum. Symbios chief executive Martin Montague who founded his company together with his brother Steve on just $200 in 2001 combined faces.com with other websites he had.
